Giving up is easy. The allure of ending the constant pursuit of your goals is never more powerful than when you’re close to achieving them. Like a first time marathon runner, you may have hit the wall. You’re at mile fourteen or fifteen and you’ve runner farther and longer than you ever have before. The task of going another step seems impossible, let alone making it several more miles.
You have a choice to make. You can stop running. You can throw away the months of training and sacrifice. You can accept failure. OR you can use the incredible power of mind and spirit over physicality and keep going. You can push past the discomfort. You can trust in the preparations you’ve made to run this race and bring your mind into subjection to your will. You can finish strong.
Don’t let your doubts and insecurities override the part of you that decided to start the race in the first place. The part of you that believes in your strength. The part of you that chose to pursue something that other people may have told you was impossible. That maybe even you believed was impossible.
“I’m not trying to get my way
in the world’s way.
I’m trying to get your way,
your Word’s way.
I’m staying on your trail;
I’m putting one foot
In front of the other.
I’m not giving up.”Psalm 17: 4-5 (The Message Bible)
Push through the wall. Don’t give up.
XoXo,
Faith
What do you do when thoughts of giving up on your goals rear their ugly heads? How do you keep yourself motivated and encouraged?
Good words to keep in mind! Thanks for posting them.

This is some great Friday motivation! You know, when I start to feel like giving up, I generally just give myself a few hours or a day to just feel whatever I’m feeling. After that I remind myself that I’m right where I need to be. And after that, I remind myself that I’ve accomplished many things in the past that once seemed impossible, and this particular goal will be no different! I tell myself that as long as I keep pushing forward, I’ll be where I want to be eventually. Thanks for this!

Quanie you said it right: giving yourself permission to just feel what you’re feeling. I do that too, and I call it sittin’ in my feelings. I think that acknowledging how you feel is an often overlooked part of the process to eventual success. Feel it, own it, encourage yourself and keep it moving!

I actually act stupid or stubborn and keep on keeping on. Or I take a side trip and head back later!

I think being stubborn is under-rated Luanne! I’m stubborn as two mules and while some might look at it as a negative, it serves me well when I’m in pursuit of something. I call it bull dog determination. To keep on keeping on is a good quality!

I am at a crossroads regarding my writing. It’s not that I want to give up writing. I don’t; but perhaps I should give up a project I’ve been working on for quite some time and for which I have been struggling in trying to maintain motivation and rather put my energy on some other project that will fuel my passion again. Thanks for this timely post, Faith. 🙂

Glad I could help Carol! 🙂
It’s hard to change direction when you’re so committed to telling the story of a particular project, but the idea of working on something that feeds your passion is a good one. In your case, it’s not giving up; it’s redirecting your energy. I’d guess that once you stop trying to force it, the story will write itself once you return to it.

“Keep Moving Forward” “
Do it again. Play it again. Sing it again. Read it again. Write it again. Sketch it again. Rehearse it again. Run it again. Try it again. Because again is practice, and practice is improvement, and improvement only leads to perfection.”

How do I keep on writing when filled with self-doubt, when I think no one is interested in reading my stories or my new attempts at poetry? My fellow bloggers, for one–they validate my work with their likes and lovely comments. And second, and most important, I know that if I stop writing, a part of me will die. I have to write to survive.

Yes! Having instant feedback and encouragement from others who understand the labor of love that is writing is invaluable. Thank God for blogger buddies. And I totally get that life without writing would be a life not lived to the fullest.
